Byron Bay: Flower power?

IMG_7798 Byron Bay Lighthouse Well I do not know where to start... So many people advised us to go to Byron Bay, said we will love it, raved about how hippie and alternative it is. I do not know what we where expecting really, may be a place like Glastonbury, or even worse (with people actually using the magic broom rather than selling them ;-) ). But Byron Bay is not like that, not that ex-centric or even alternative. Yes there is lots of spas, 2 Steiner Schools (which is pretty incredible seeing the size of the town) lots of surfer, and yes a magic-ish mushroom shop but it is very down to earth. Apparently the housing price have brutally risen which has probably contribute to the establishment of a wealthy population in the area, or Sydneyiers working form home who decided to enjoy their Surf more often. Anyway, we absolutely love it. The town is definitely the prettiest we have seen, lots of art and things happening here all the time, more due to the popularity of Byron than to the very few inhabitants. The beaches are absolutely amazing, with a dune to hide houses, so the 7 miles beach just looked completely unspoiled, the water is rough but transparent and the sand white reflects beautifully the light. IMG_7780 Tallow Bay (our caravan park is just right on the beach) All the coast is stunning around here with long beaches alternating with small coves hidden at the feet of cliffs We have been here nearly a week, have met really nice people, people we could easily befriends with, like minded parents and a real sense of community which is very strong. It does remind me of Bishopston and around Gloucester sort of area, I love it! So tomorrow we are going to set off to visit more the inland but I would not be surprise if we came back here fairly soon. IMG_7841 Gaetan et Lorelie
